As the demand for mobile app development in Tucson continues to grow, we are continually asked what type of development trends can be expected in 2020, and beyond. We’ve been asked about enough that we decided to write a blog addressing what we believe is the biggest growing trend of this decade.

At the top of list is 5G Wireless services. Not only is 5G going to change the world we live in, it’s going to change the way we work, and in the software world, how we will interact with mobile and IoT devices.

It took 12 years for 4G to become a mainstay technology. We don’t even think about the fact that 10+ years ago, it took several seconds for an image to upload to your phone. Now we watch YouTube videos and streaming news services in real-time, and we expect nothing less. That said, imagine what’s coming with 5G. With current 4G technology, data networks can deliver, at best, about 100 megabits per second. With 5G, it’s expected to 10 gigabits per second, or to put it more human terms, imagine that your phone, which has been on the 4G network for 10 years, is akin to a 1967 Buick Skylark. Now imagine switching to a 5G network. That would be like switching to a 2020 Mustang Cobra with 500 horsepower. Silly analogy, maybe, but you get the message.

5G changes everything. Mobile devices will be able to send and receive data at blinding speed. For businesses, this means instant playback of video content, faster shipping calculations and more rapid check-out times from all smart devices. For retail and e-commerce, imagine customers wearing AR or VR headsets and being able to virtually try on a pair of sneakers or the latest watch from Fossil. With 5G, this isn’t just possible, it’s probable.

Like most new tech, 5G isn’t going to pop-up everywhere overnight. It’s going to take time, years in fact, before we truly begin to see its value unfold, and amazingly, once we begin using it in our everyday lives, we’ll wonder how we ever got along without it.

When choosing a mobile app development company, remember these three simple points.

First, find a company who will listen carefully to your goals.

Second, choose a company that’s been in business a minimum of ten years. A lot of web design/mobile app firms are here today and gone tomorrow.  You need to locate a company that will be there not just during the development of your app, but years later for updates and new feature add-ons.

Lastly, choose a company that’s developed hundreds of apps, not just a few. The wealth of knowledge of a hundred projects offers far more experience value than companies that build a few and leave the marketplace.
